Why not at Brigade for Yoga Day celebrations? Calcutta High Court questions Red Road closure for 7 days

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: The Calcutta High Court has questioned the decision to close Red Road for 7 days to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kolkata on International Yoga Day. The court asked why the event could not be held at Brigade. However, the High Court did not stay the government's decision. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to appear in Kolkata on June 21 on the occasion of International Yoga Day. However, the Calcutta High Court has raised a big question about the decision to completely close Red Road, one of the main lifelines of the city, for seven days to mark this mega event. During the hearing of the case on Thursday, the court questioned why the Yoga Day celebrations could not be held at the 'Brigade Parade Ground' without increasing the suffering of the common people by closing Red Road for seven days? However, despite raising this question, the High Court has refused to grant any interim stay on the government's decision to close the road.
