Abhishek relieved in the Assembly signature forgery case, what did the High Court say?

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: The All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress approached the court challenging the CID notice in the Assembly signature forgery case. Abhishek Banerjee relieved in the Assembly signature forgery case. Justice Kaushik Chand extended the interim protection for the next month. The High Court ordered that no strict action can be taken against him during this period. However, the Trinamool MP will have to cooperate in the investigation. The next hearing of the case is likely on July 23. The signature case began after the election results were announced. On May 6, the Trinamool leader held a meeting with the MLAs in Kalighat. In it, Shobhandeb Chatterjee's name was proposed as the Leader of the Opposition. All those present that day raised their hands and supported Shobhandeb. But the Trinamool did not submit the proposal to be submitted to the Assembly. Then on May 13 and 14, the Trinamool MLAs were sworn in in the Assembly. After the oath, the MLAs signed as per the rules. The Assembly Secretary asked the Trinamool, as the opposition party, for a proposal with the name of the opposition leader. The MLAs were called to a meeting in Kalighat again on May 19 to submit it. Some were present that day, some were absent. The signatures of all those present were taken on behalf of the party. A few absentees were counted. Later, a paper signed by 70 people supporting the name of the party's proposed opposition leader was submitted to the Assembly. The Trinamool informed that that was the proposal of the opposition leader. And this is where the discrepancy started. The Secretary suspected fraud when the signatures of the Trinamool MLAs did not match at two places. He filed an FIR at the police station. The CID, having been given the charge of investigation, started working. The name of Trinamool Congress's second-in-command Abhishek Banerjee has been implicated in this signature forgery case. The CID, after investigating, ordered Abhishek Banerjee to appear at Bhavani Bhavan. But he avoided appearing citing illness. He also sent a letter asking for 15 days' time. After that, the All India General Secretary of Trinamool Congress approached the court challenging the CID notice.
