Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: One of North Kolkata's most iconic and heritage Durga Puja committees, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity, formally commenced its 91st year of celebrations with the auspicious Khuti Puja and the unveiling of its 2026 theme, "Akal Bodhon."
The ceremonial Khuti Puja, symbolising the official beginning of Durga Puja preparations, was attended by several eminent personalities, including Smt. Locket Chatterjee, General Secretary of BJP WB; Sri. Koustav Bagchi, MLA; Sri. Pradip Kr. Dey (Bapi Da), President of Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity; Smt. Pratyusha Banerjee, Secretary of Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity along with many other eminent personalities.
This year's theme, "Akal Bodhon," draws inspiration from one of the most significant episodes of the Ramayana, symbolising the untimely invocation of Goddess Durga by Lord Rama before his battle against Ravana. The committee has also received the blessings of His Holiness Param Pujaniya Giriji Maharaj (Juna Akhara), whose guidance has added profound spiritual significance to this year's celebrations.
As part of this year's artistic presentation, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity also unveiled a special artistic tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The artwork was conceptualised as a tribute to the Prime Minister's public expressions of faith and his association with Bengal's rich religious and cultural traditions.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri. Pradip Kr. Dey (Bapi Da), President, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity, said, "For over nine decades, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity has been dedicated to preserving the cultural essence of Durga Puja while embracing meaningful artistic expression. With 'Akal Bodhon' as our theme this year, we aim to present a celebration that reflects devotion, heritage and the enduring values that unite our society. We welcome everyone to be a part of this memorable journey during our 91st year."
