India vs England T20 match is going on. In the middle of that match, he noticed a condom ad of a famous company. After that, he became vocal. Posting on the X handle, he said, 'Children are also watching India vs England T20 match live. Isn't it shameful that (condom company) advertisements are coming on the screen. BCCI should look into this matter.'
The World Cup-winning cricket team member compared condom advertisements to cigarettes and alcohol, the promotion or advertisement of which is banned. He said indignantly that condom advertisements are shown between every over. At least 440 million people, including those under 16 and children, have seen the advertisement. In an interview with news agency IANS, he said, "This is an advertisement for adults. Children watch it with their parents. Cricket is considered a religion in our country. When I was watching, 440 million people were watching. Adult advertisements were coming in between the matches. Parents are embarrassed and do not know which way to look. Children do not understand, they want to know what it is. What effect will it have on their minds? This is a big question. The BCCI should answer. How are they allowing this? Just like alcohol and cigarette advertisements are banned, this should also be banned." He said that if necessary, he will raise the issue in Parliament.
However, neither the BCCI nor the streaming platform has yet responded to Trinamool MP Kirti Azad's complaint.
