After the mid-day meal biryani, this time the announcement of 100 percent loan waiver for farmers is made by Chief Minister

Bibhash Lodh, BS News Agency: Big announcement for farmers. Chief Minister Vijay has waived off loans for farmers in compliance with the request of the farmers' association. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has announced a loan waiver of up to Rs 75,000 for cooperative farm loans. On Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced that 100 percent of agricultural loans taken from cooperatives up to Rs 75,000 will be waived. Those who have taken loans between Rs 75,000 and Rs 1 lakh will get a loan waiver of up to Rs 75,000. If the loan is more than Rs 1 lakh, then a maximum of Rs 35,000 will be waived.

Chief Minister Vijay said that 2 lakh 38 thousand farmers will be waived off loans of Rs 40,000 per head. In total, a total of Rs 62.20 crore of loans of 13 lakh 34 thousand farmers in the state will be waived off. This loan waiver will cost Rs 953.06 crore from the state treasury. As per the Reserve Bank's instructions, the government will have to pay off the loans of cooperative banks within 45 to 60 days. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay said that the loan waiver announced by the AIADMK government in 2021 was paid in 12 installments by the previous DMK and AIADMK governments. There, his government has waived off a total of Rs 5,267 crore of loans of more than 13 lakh farmers by July 31. Incidentally, farmers' protests and movements started in Tamil Nadu demanding loan waiver. Discussions were also held with state ministers in phases. Then, the farmers' movement was temporarily called off on the assurance of the government. However, this time, the farmers' organizations are not very happy with Chief Minister Vijay's announcement. According to them, although 2 lakh 38 thousand farmers have benefited from this loan waiver by the government, 7 lakh 40 thousand small and marginal farmers will still have to bear the full burden of loans.
