Bibhash Lodh, BS News Agency: Abu Zafar, the lease holder of the hotel, has been arrested in connection with the tragic death of 9 people in a horrific fire at the hotel 'Shikha Inn' on Mirza Ghalib Street in Kolkata New Market. Intelligence Department officials arrested him from his residence in Jorasanko late on Wednesday night. Two people, including the hotel manager and an employee, are also being questioned. Although the initial investigation has suggested that the fire started due to an AC explosion, forensic tests are being conducted to find out the real cause. Among the 9 people who died due to smoke inhalation, several Bangladeshi nationals are among the 9 people who died and at least 6 others are undergoing treatment for injuries. It has been alleged that the hotel did not have adequate firefighting facilities and negligence. Due to this, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has closed the controversial hotel indefinitely. At the same time, a special five-member committee has been formed to examine the fire safety and licenses of all commercial structures in the city from August 25. Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal has summoned the fire audit reports of all important establishments in the city. The administration has warned of strict action if negligence is proven.
