East Bengal FC currently top the ISL standings with 21 points from 10 games (6 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss) and an impressive goal difference of +18 - the highest in the league so far.
The Red & Golds have been unbeaten in their last seven encounters, having won four of their last five matches, including consecutive victories over Odisha FC (3-0) and Mumbai City (2-1). Oscar Bruzon's men have demonstrated both attacking flair and defensive solidity so far, and their strong record at the VYBK this season (7 wins) may prove to be decisive.
The Kolkata-based club will head into the game on the back of a brilliant comeback victory over Mumbai City in their previous outing. A win on Monday will ensure a hat-trick of victories for them in the ISL for the first time since February 2025.
Youssef Ezzejjari, who scored in EBFC's last two wins, currently leads the race for the ISL Golden Boot with 10 goals. The Spanish forward is the fastest EBFC player in the history of the league to net 10+ goals in a single edition. Overall, the Red & Golds have scored a staggering 27 goals - the highest so far - with nine different players finding the back of the net.
Punjab FC, meanwhile, have amassed 18 points from 10 games (5 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats). Although a late own-goal from L. Hnamte secured them a lucky 1-0 win over Chennaiyin FC in their previous outing, the former I-League champions have been fairly organised in defense and dangerous on the counter. Nsungusi Jnr Effiong has been their primary marksman with 7 goals to his name - only behind Ezzejjari and Jamie Maclaren.
This will be the fifth fixture between the two sides in the ISL, with EBFC holding the head-to-head advantage (2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat). The Red & Golds completed a league double against their Northern counterparts last season, including a memorable 4-2 comeback victory at the VYBK. Under Coach Bruzon, EBFC have won all three games against the 'Shers'.
*Addressing the media at the pre-match press conference, Head Coach Oscar Bruzon, who prepares for his 50th game in charge of East Bengal, said*, "Punjab FC have been one of the most formidable and consistent sides in this ISL season; that has been my view from day one, and nothing has changed. They are an extremely well-balanced team. They are dangerous in transitions, and have quality and physicality in the central areas that can hurt us if we switch off for even a moment. We are fully aware of what is at stake tomorrow. Our focus is entirely on them, nothing else exists for us right now."
*EBFC player Vishnu PV said*, "Coach has certain plans and we all need to adapt to those plans. I am very grateful to East Bengal FC for everything I have achieved in my career. This is my home and I will always work hard to make our fans proud."
The match can be streamed live on the FanCode app and will be broadcast live on the Sony Sports Ten 2 channel.
